World Environment Day Murwillumbah

A wonderful day was had by all at Murwillumbah World Environment Day this Sunday. It was a beautiful Winters day and a great turn out for the event organisers – Caldera Environment Centre. There were many excellent stalls and information for the community on ways we can all work together toward a greener future. Tyalgum Energy Project had a very impressive display of enormous solar panels and great performances by local musicians. Our volunteers came out in force and looked wonderful in their great new Tshirts promoting We Can Ride Together. There was a lot of community engagement and lively conversations and an additional 123 signatures were added to our mounting pile of petition pages of residents demanding the railway tracks remain in place.
There was an opportunity to speak with some candidates for the upcoming Council elections and demonstrate to them the overwhelming community support for this cause. It was also really great to talk to some of the young people who have been busy collecting signatures for us and who relayed some of the feedback from their peers. Keep an eye out for some videos from them recorded at the event.
The day was all about Mother Earth though and all of the research points to light rail being a stand out winner of sustainable and environmentally friendly public transport. See our info graphics below and lots more environmental resources on the Information page here.
