We interviewed some young people at The World Environment Day Event in Murwillumbah on Sunday 6th June. Here is what they had to say about the railway tracks, potential light rail and what it would mean to younger generations.

The Byron Bay solar powered train is, as far as I can discover, the first and only 100% electric, 100% solar powered train. Early days but clearly something that's worth developing. Robert Llewellyn takes a relaxing, sunny trip on this amazing zero emission train service, operated by The Byron Bay Railroad Company, a not for profit company and an accredited heritage rail operator, passing through littoral rainforest, endangered coastal wetlands and over the stunning tea tree Belongil Creek, part of Cape Byron Marine Park. According to their website https://byronbaytrain.com.au... "A return service is provided 364 days a year, excluding Christmas Day, on the immaculately restored 1949 era two carriage heritage train. All thanks to a 4.6 billion year old power source! The three kilometre coastal track links the Byron Town Centre with the burgeoning North Beach precinct. The journey takes ten minutes one way or 25 return from North Beach Station." "The train has capacity for 96 seated passengers, additional standing passengers and luggage room for bikes, prams and surfboards, carried free of charge. This is net carbon positive travel, Byron style."
